Definition Of Magnesia Chrome Brick
Magnesia chrome brick, also called silicate bonded magnesia chrome brick, is made of sintered magnesia clinker and refractory chrome brick. The refractory grains are bound by silicate. The chromium oxide content of chrome ore used for producing magnesia chrome bricks is generally over 33%.
Magnesia chrome brick is different form chrome-magnesite brick due to the content of MgO and Cr2O3. Magnesia chrome brick: 55%≤MgO<80% 30%≤Cr2O3<45% CaO≤1.5%

Common Magnesite-chrome Brick
In common magnesite-chrome brick, the MgO content is more than 55%, but less than 80%, while the Cr2O3 content is no less than 8%. The main minerals in common magnesite-chrome brick are periclase and picotite, and the silicate phase is forsterite and calcium magnesium olivine.
Silicate matrix in alkaline brick has the lowest melting point and can be easily eroded. All kinds of slag may react with it, which has the great influence on the performance of magnesia chrome brick. The way to improve magnesia chrome brick quality is to adopt compact and dense coarse-grained chromite with little calcium oxide in order to avoid external expansion. The other way is to reduce the low melting point of silicate brick, such as silicate manganolite and calcium and magnesium olivine to adjust the matrix and form a high melting point forsterite, increasing the density of the bricks and reducing the infiltration of slag.
The ability of alkaline slag resistance of common magnesite-chrome brick is strong and the resistance to acid slag is better than that of magnesia brick. The load softening point of magnesia-chrome is high, the volume stability is good at high temperature and the shrinkage of the refired line at 1500℃ is small. The common magnesia-chrome brick is widely used in the firing zone of the rotary kiln.

Direct-bonded Magnesia Chrome Brick
Direct-bonded magnesia chrome brick is a high quality magnesia chrome refractory developed in order to enlarge the large-scale production of cement. The primary minerals of direct-bonded magnesia chrome bricks are calcite and spinel combined directly which greatly improves the high temperature performance of refractory bricks.
The direct-bonded magnesia chrome brick is made of high quality magnesite ore and chromite as raw material and then fired into light magnesia. After a certain gradation, the magnesia chrome ball is formed by high pressure. The heavy magnesia is made at the temperature of 1900℃ and is pressed into mold after the adding of a certain proportion of ferrochrome. Finally, the direct-bonded magnesia chrome is calcined at 1750-1850 in a tunnel kiln. Compared with the common magnesia chrome brick, the life service of direct-bonded magnesia chrome brick is significantly improved.
The bricks fired at 1750-1850℃ are high temperature magnesia chrome bricks, while the bricks burned at 1800-1850℃ are ultra-high temperature magnesia chrome bricks and the key points of production are high purity raw materials, high pressure molding and high temperature calcination.
Fused-rebonded Magnesite-chrome Brick
Fused-rebonded magnesite-chrome brick is sintered from fused magnesia chrome sand. The agglutinating performance of fused magnesia chrome sand is poor but the calcinated product is a fine matrix with uniform pore distribution, and has tiny cracks. The sensitivity to temperature change is better than that of cast brick.

Chemically Bonded Magnesium Brick
Chemically bonded magnesium brick is also called unfired magnesite-chrome brick, made of sintered magnesia, chromite and a small amount of chemical binder and heated at lower temperature to get hardened. Some products can be hardened at normal atmospheric temperature, and some must be heated to the appropriate temperature to make the products have certain strength. When the product is used at high temperature, ceramic bonding or high temperature resistant phase will be formed. Since the forming process is often wrapped in iron shell, chemically bonded magnesium brick is dubbed as iron sheet brick.
